Some corners of it definitely have some heritage. From the DIY community-building ethos, to more specific diaspora. One anecdote: The guy who got me into punk at age 10 self identifies as a degen today, which blew my mind. Old punks are around.

Degen is also kind of punk. Quoting Vitalik: “Degens are financial nihilists who focus on current trends and hype to strike it lucky and escape the rat race of contemporary neoliberal capitalism.” Feels punk not ?
