Don’t know whether Google+ could have succeeded, but Google was able to make many things work without that being the main thing - gmail, chrome, android… While I generally agree and love what Zuck says here, counter examples do exist.

Yeah Google definitely has been able to make many other products huge: search, YouTube, chrome, android, Gmail, workspace, etc. Aside from YouTube (which actually has its own CEO and it's been historically run separately from the rest of Google), Google doesn't do much social though. With G+ they tried to do too much
