Crazy that the cost to transact on L2 right now is ~$1. I know 4844 will change this very soon but feel like the vision being sold for L2 was "free and instant" and we're already starting to see fees become a meaningful blocker prior to a real bull market starting. Praying we don't run back outrageous tx fees again.

The main value prop of L2 is to enable transactions that are not possible on L1. For example - collecting a song for $2. If the cost to transact is $1 - that become very noticeable and small "fun" actions won't happen as much. Plus - sponsored transactions go more towards gas than towards the actual mint.

About 4844 I'm not that optimistic, nothing can change eth gas fee, it is designed to be like this, no burn no value gain, that's why we see Solana #5 because trx fees are so cheap and consistent, I believe L1s reign is coming specifically new ones with hype

In the longterm, the cost of proofing for zkEVM will go down by orders of magnitude. And Optimism has already prepared for zk with the Bedrock upgrade last year while rn, three of the best zk teams in the world are working on implementations. OP will scale.

That’s 1/120th what I saw today on L1 so come on my guy let’s give it 10 more days and see what 4844 will do for us 🫠😎 Also! Just to say it, standard debit / credit transactions is like 1.50-2.50 so L2s still ahead of the curve

Yeah I was spamming transactions on an L2 and the next thing i realised I had spend > 30-40 on fees. I just mentally blocked them out coz I figured each tx would be cents at most. Not looking good.

We should absolutely not stop at 4844 because of this For a start, number of blobs per block should be increased from the current 3 to 6 or 9, maybe within 6 months if demand is sufficient PeerDAS should also be shipped well before Verkle trees, in a standalone HF is needed

You can do this on Solana without having to worry about fees & incredible speed. For consumer apps there is no good reason to pick an EVM L2. Drip wouldn't be possible anywhere else. Join us!

Yeah, I think L2s will have to switch to Celestia, EigenDA for Data Availability this cycle. I dont think ETH blobs are gonna do it in terms of cost reduction. I know there are security tradeoffs so most simply wont do it unfortunately.

L2s were never about "free and instant" sorry, they're just an attempt on better scaling with optimistic execution, fraud proofs, zero knowledge and so on. Since they all need to post back to L1 they're still comparatively expensive. What you're looking for are L3s and appchains that are purpose driven

Yep. Never spent 50 USD as quick as when the bull run began...Gwei rising to 150 is ridiculous and if there isn't implemented a PERMANENT solution for this then crypto will NEVER become mainstream. If we hate gas fees imagine how repulsed normies are.
