1 OpenAI has been an impressive research organization, but they just haven't proven why GPT-4 is irreplaceably performant. They also don't sell compute, and apparently, they don't like products that offload specialization/distillation to the public/users, which would build a lot of trust (like Meta w/ Llama).

tbqh, I would answer much differently to a more open-ended question. this is sort of a false dilemma, I don't trust or have confidence in either OpenAI or Microsoft, given where the innovations have been happening.

there's plenty of latent compute. Tesla/SpaceX is probably the furthest ahead with physics embodiment, Meta/Amazon/Stability/FOSS for agentic software, & Apple has the most to gain from spatial-maxxing. the wisest course is to write off consumer wrappers since they seem to evaporate + there's so much "demo" agreement.
