Define pointless? Is entertainment pointless? Is food pointless? Is killing tens of millions of chickens in a vain attempt to slow a pandemic pointless?

Is spending your entire life in a cage, stacked on top of one another by the millions so you can lay unfertilized eggs pointless, from the person of the chicken? 

Male chicks are put in a shredder alive, as babies. Is that more meaningful somehow?
