I am reading the same book right now, and it has been a tough read. 50% through, on pages claiming that the authoritarian character is actually a perpetual submittor to forces higher than oneself. Whether it be the economy, a boss, a spouse, etc. curious-how did you find out about this book?

Admit it's hard going for me as well sometimes, but I find it so enlightening and rewarding that I always come back to it. About 2/3 through. As far as how I found out about it - IIRC it was during a deep dive & massive haul of psychology books and looking at other suggested books Other books in this haul - Death & Dying by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross - The Denial of Death by Ernest Becker - misc by jung & freud

throwing some thoughts in here. “destructiveness inversely correlates with the blockage of growth of man’s sensuous emotional and intellectual capabilities” yes. the books you mention are the type to throw in someday maybe category. I respect your journey to all in a specific subject, i’m sure it’ll be worth it I picked up this one, because I had a friend tell me it’s his all time favorite book.Always read a book when there’s such enthusiasm, just very difficult to find time. other news: A good friend creating a philosophy book club for my friendgroup here. i’m not sure the group is interested. i’ll support him, but cannot display emotion… must remain stoic… 😐 If you have any favorite philosophy books, or sci fi, please share. random thought I wonder how psychology relates to philosophy… they seem similar to me.

the link between psychology and philosophy is interesting - obvious in some respects, but I never considered it; philosophy seems obviously older, but is it? as for other books, I suggest Ryan Holiday's book on stoicism but you probably already know them
