What you wrote applies to any chain at that scale. Block space is limited. But like the internet not everything will or should happen on one local network, there will be a backbone connecting local activity together and only Ethereum right now is set up to do that.

Need to give a shout-out to Tezos here with their enshrined rollups which to some extent are ahead of Ethereum from a technical perspective. I don’t know enough about Tezos to know what limitations this imposes on how the rollups can be implemented, but I’m wondering if it might be too early to enshrine anything. I’m a fan of the bazaar over the cathedral in the early days of a new tech

My understanding is it's a very general implementation. The main limitation is it needs to be able to run in a WASM virtual machine. As long as you can compile it to WASM you can do whatever you want in your rollup and use any language you want.

It's basically trying to take the same general approach people have had forever for smart contracts (you can do whatever, it's a Turing-complete language) and applying it to rollups.
