weed is more abused than tobacco, worsens psychological dependency on drugs, and normalizes unhealthy coping mechanisms. society has relaxed standards of responsible moderation and sobriety, and that is wrong

it's also a much healthier alternative than alcohol, normalizing its use feels like an upgrade to me

Your idea of society relaxing standards of sobriety fails the history and data test… * Drug use was a rampant problem in the US Military throughout the 70s * Blue collar culture in 50s to 70s was work, bar (drink), go home, sleep. * https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/alcohol-consumption-per-person-us

Former heavy user of both. Tobacco affected sports, caused 24/7 anxiety, and killed hunger. Weed slowed thinking, built tolerance, and tried higher doses. First 2 years, weed was fun; then paranoia hit every high, and ended up quitting. Clean for 10 years, feeling great.

This is true—that said.. A lil night cap of weed after a long day of responsibilities seems like a responsible way to use it to me. What do you see as responsible?

are you advocating shaming folks who use weed? or you suggesting a PSA type of campaign to warn of the dangers? or those the same thing?

Thoroughly disagree with your entire sentiments. This is the type of judgement take that has little scientific evidence outside of studies you can cherry pick to make this case. Go worry about alcohol and it’s societal “moderation” and “sobriety”. given we all have an arbitrary “moderation” of .08 bac

"abused" is doing heavy lifting there. tobacco and marijuana have much different health risks & benefits.

How do you feel about pain medications? How do you think about cannabis products as it relates to pain, stress, etc?

I’ve been entirely sober my entire life so I have no stake in this question and am just curious: Where do you stand on recreational psychedelics? Anything from mushrooms to DMT

Relaxed standards is generous. Everyone be coping hard. Sad bc mental health discourse is more open and commonly and less stigmatized. The two don't exactly go hand in hand

I imagine that by “society” you mean the US, which I cannot comment on. But I’ve lived long enough in dry parts of the Middle East and Asia (no alcohol, no weed, let alone harder drugs) that… I’ve warmed up to the societal benefits of mass abstinence from substances (even if forced, in these cases).

have tried both- months of using it nightly, months of not using it. came to the conclusion it's most beneficial when you have a perfect use for it. for me: 1. cannot fall asleep, meditation and the like is not fast enough 2. ideation/creative work- actually find it very helpful for reading/writing

I find it fascinating in a good way how open-minded Farcaster is to drugs in general but I couldn’t have said it better. I also think it’s generational.

Society relaxed legal enforcement, which is quite different from standards of some sort. Yes, I agree that we need shared wisdom and mutual support. Sobriety in my experience is often used to rationalize the fear of letting go of mental control, or anxiety. Been there often myself.

I had a couple of knee-jerk reactions to this at first, but after some consideration, I would have to agree, but for probably different reasons. I think weed used to be pretty non-impactful, but times, or rather strains, change. Now it really isn't good for alot of ppl.
