Two spirit is a Native American thing, some tribes have essentially a third gender role, where individuals considered as "two spirit" frequently take on assumed norms of the other two typical genders

Yeah it's pretty niche, no idea what the genesis for this UI is, but usually the easier route is to just offer three checkboxes: male, female, other (with an input box to specify)

wow. that seems so niche, they need to have a legend. the first time i saw xe and ze i had no idea what they were. and if they have a legend, that's educational for the folks that don't know.
