Imagine that in the future, the term "generative art" is no longer commonly used. What term do you think will replace it? 🤔

You know, I remember a time when it was called “procedural art”. I’m not sure when/how that changed.

Art. Which is what happens to all movements, tangents & detours from mainstream art 🙂

I personally love the term "Generative Art," but sometimes I feel like we overthink categories. Considering that techniques are increasingly mixed together, I wonder if a super general term like "Digital Art" for everything related to art made with digital tools (coding, AI, 3D, vectors, Photoshop...) could work, allowing the artists to discuss the techniques 😅 (This is a joke of course, but...)

I realised that term "generative art" is not commonly used really, so I say i do art, and add that I code it

Just call it 'art', because *all* art has a process. Having studied 'textile art', I remember the debate revolving around identity issues and why calling any art 'something' art can often be problematic. We can discuss the process in due course but we don't need it as a label. This idea could be contentious, but I'm just floating it out there and I pretty much believe it :)

I have always liked the term generative or gen art. But one to replace it? Maybe algorithmic art or programmable art.
