Early geological maps from the 19th and early 20th century, like the Carte géologique de la France (1906), evoke abstract expressionist works. Without clear visual or territorial references, they capture the abstract so well!

John De Cesare, The Magic Fire-Scene, from Die Walküre by Wagner. 1956. Cesare visualized music through graphic scores, using geometric shapes to represent rhythm & pitch. Note duration was shown by width, pitch by vertical placement, and colors to tell chords from single notes.

Rasch Brothers, Architectural plan for suspended houses. 1927. The German architects were influential in the modernist movement and the "New Building" style. They were obsessed with projects for hanging residential systems during their whole lives.
