What did you wait too long to do in your startup? What did you do too soon? I’m trying to make better decisions this week 🫡

Waited too long to monetize our product which made it hard to collect the data that was actually relevant to our KPIs

i waited too long: Launching product: Waiting too long to launch can hinder the learning process and delay valuable feedback from real customers Iterating based on customer feedback: Delaying the launch prevents startups from gathering essential data to test hypotheses and improve a product based on customer insights

What I usually see, Too early: money on marketing, hiring roles that can be outsourced like HR, spending money on travel for team off sites. Too late: finance related for scale (cash management, accounting, taxes). Legal related things thinking that they can simply fix it later.

too long: get the mvp out there thinking that needs to be perfect before going public too soon: decide salaries based on market conditions instead of thinking on a long runway

Start selling and storytelling even if you still have not a fully working product. In B2B for example procurement rarely understands the product but loves the story 😅

I help advise a startup and they went to fundraise too soon without enough DAUs. They waited too long to ship changes to the app that would grow, or at least hold steady, the number of users so they could then focus on raising.

Hiring, we waited too long to hire cos we felt it was better to work with a lean team Fund raising, investors coils not really see the potential of our solutions because it was still too early

My “startup” is a bit strange because it’s a DAO, but it’s a great question! Too soon: making promises on dates/features. The nature of DAO work is too uncertain for this. Too late: deciding to focus on revenue vs investment. We thought we needed $2M to make it work but managed to ship for $30k

Too long: hire first eng manager. Someone who can scale up execution. Too soon: all sorts of processes. Especially eg levels and promotion tracks. Thought I was being intentional and putting in the structure for growth, instead was cutting off creativity and agility.

Waited too long to launch , kept working on the prototype in hopes of a " perfect product" , which will never happen from the first try

After a period of growing from 1 to 4 locations, I took too long to audit each location and position. Inefficient processes needed brought back to basics. Inefficient positions needed cut immediately. Repeatedly hired too early.

To early: start building the product without a decent plan, roadmap and external validation. To late: everything else. Just can't help myself, just love to build stuff 🫣

Waiting too long to bring on a marketing / GTM lead, tends to happen after a product is launched. Spending money too early legal support, depends on your risk tolerance, but a lot this can wait until much later.
