Is the thinking in this thread that: - alcoholism is bad, but we shouldn't impose that value on others, or - the message is delivered within the wrong gender framing, or - something else?

I’m neutral on the alcohol good/bad messaging. I do see value in public messaging about its harms tho But I guess I’m commenting more on the form this ad and other socialist β€œrealist” propaganda of the era takes: using imagery that aligns good with power, virility, nationalism, productivity etc implying that all else is weakness, unpatriotic etc. Big authoritarian energy

The tricky thing is that being strong and healthy are objectively good things that we should strive for and not vilify. Power is necessary to protect a collective. Though I achieved that it is hard to balance messaging of respect for strength with supporting those in need.

Agree that strength and health should be striven for. My criticism is more about the propagandistic form and tone than the main message. Thanks for opening the space to discuss πŸ™πŸ½
