Do you think channels should be renamed? I feel that we still struggle to get in terms with the new model and a big reason is "channel" points to some kind of broadcasting. Would it make more sense if we renamed them to "corners"?

I 100% think they should be renamed. The concept completely changed. They should be called "Groups" or "Clubs" or something.

Groups, and (flame bait begins) just replicate something that works elsewhere (Facebook Groups, Subreddits) rather than invent something new
