For some reason, this doesn't sound inviting to me. I prefer to purchase artist merchandise directly from the artists rather than through Spotify. Would love to hear more thoughts... https://techcrunch.com/2023/10/16/spotify-launching-personalized-in-app-merch-hub/

Overall, I think I like this, especially since they are working with Shopify to do it. That means the artists own the relationship with their fans. That's important, essential even. I'll be interested to hear about the successes, especially for smaller artists.

I’m assuming that Shopify and Spotify have some sort of deal because I don’t see any information about how Spotify makes money from this. In that case it’s not a bad idea, although this would be artists giving up even more of their data to Spotify.

We need to protect our data aggressively. We are one TOS agreement away from us being cloned by Spotify

I agree, but it seems like artists have already sacrificed almost everything in the name of distribution. Something is clearly wrong with the music industry if it’s impossible for independent but talented artists to successfully distribute their music.

Yeah. I’m giving up my music and publishing most as CC0 and focusing on community operated grant pools
