One of the complaints that I hear A LOT is “The OG casters just ignore anyone who’s not in their circle. This leads to resentment for some people. 

But I wanted to share a different perspective. You don’t need to get a response. Instead, focus on finding friends that you can grow together with.

In short, don’t worry about the current OGs. Make your own!

Because it sucks writing out a thoughtful reply only to be completely ignored, and this is definitely a thing I've noticed with some people.

I know OGs are slammed but it gets really frustrating to leave a relevant and thoughtful reply that you spent a lot of time on in an attempt to participate in the conversation they started and not waste THEIR time with low quality responses only to get absolutely no interaction and see a bunch of their friends leave a few words and get several replies.

When that becomes the normal state then you just quit trying to interact with them. And if you're doing things like buying their Fan Tokens or paying for their hypersubs and still ignored that way, it's even more frustrating.

I wish the algo was focused on elevating good content and not trying to elevate "good people". Then someone could prove their worth to follow/interact with by consistently writing good posts and earn rank that way instead of just making friends with other people who boost their interactions no matter what.

I've been mulling over it a lot for a while.

It would really need to be an algo overhaul to do it in a way that it wouldn't be gamed. It's much "easier" to just "trust" accounts with a lot of interactions are putting out good interactions even when that's just not the case because those interactions are often motivated by things other than common interest or trying to connect with other people.

It would be an interesting application of AI, I think, to be able to evaluate the quality of a post, based on the context of the conversation (in a channel, on a specific topic, etc) and have it rank posts which then a more simplified algo could use those rankings and user topic preferences to deliver posts to them regardless of who is creating them. Then it wouldn't matter how many followers you had or what your "social rank" was if you had relevant input, your post would be prioritized. And it could help weed out the chaff.

Lots to hash out there, but would be awesome to see if something like that could be built.

Re the 2nd point: elevating good content... I wonder how to do this, and if it could be done with a separate webapp?

Yup, I've had exactly the same experience. It's if it's the UI, or the algo, or the person...
