(That's using "For you" feed). I have Elmo on mute, not blocked, which works. And ads are fewer and slightly better than they were but targeting still way off. Seems AI community still hangs out exclusively on X which is why I get so much utility still.... but feels brittle.

Interestingly: Opposite experience here for me recently...my (free) X feed is full of SF AI, e/acc and VC chatter, plus climate change updates. Mostly high signal over noise. Occasionally get local politics from here in NZ but US culture wars entirely absent thankfully.

Bluesky is refined empaths. A bunch of Lt Trois. Farcaster could be a bunch of Commander Datas. Empaths will always outnumber quants 10:1 but when a quant discourse lands a punch it tends to hit 10x harder. Twitter of course is just internet of beefs and theater. Fediverse is isolationist mutual admiration.

Today’s announcement that Farcaster is now a fully permissionless protocol is a step towards a future of decentralized social networks that I believe will be better for users and other network participants. Here’s why.

IMO there are lots of opportunities for values-aligned states to actively collaborate, sponsor and curate open source tech competitors to maintain sovereignty and agency over Big Tech default option.

Sometimes govt has had to intervene and operate a state-run lowest common denominator competitor to ensure service provision for under privileged population segments - for example Kiwibank is largest NZ-owned bank - 85% of market Australian-owned.

Depends how big the market is as well. Here in lil'ol Aotearoa pretty much every major vertical is dominated by a two player oligopoly, with the rest left to fight over the crumbs.

asking for a friend (me), does the phrase “network state” excite anyone beyond technocrats and crypto bros?

POV: there is no influx of people waiting to join Farcaster once it goes permissionless other than airdrop farmers. 1. We use Ethereum, so anyone anti-crypto is won’t be convinced in the near term 2. Existing apps are too similar to Twitter, with way less content New types of apps / behaviors for growth.

Given the tidal wave of AI-generated content starting to wash over Twitter, maintaining scarcity and veracity may actually drive engagement long term. Social media will need some kind of "truth"/ consensus mechanism pretty imminently... Farcaster difference?

Probably as the only technology able to provide reliable verification of "facts" (=consensus between trusted sources) in the coming AI-generated deepfakes tsunami. Pretty soon the web will be unusable even with government-issued ID verification. Expecting a huge need for Snopes but on-chain. (Does it already exist?)
