We were at the shrine at 7 a.m., and it was already starting to get crowded. By the time we left, there were about six times as many people as when we arrived. We didn’t try to get to the top of the mountain because of the heat. We almost died in the bamboo forest because of the heat. We actually came back to the hotel because my wife wasn’t feeling well for that reason. It’s sad because we know we’d love everything we’re visiting, but the heat is turning it into a bad experience.

Bro, I’m feeling bad about visiting these places and seeing the behavior of other tourists… I’m being as respectful as possible, but I feel like ripping off more than one tourist’s head on several occasions. Like in Gion, where it’s clearly stated that photography is not allowed, I respect that and put my camera away, but everyone else is taking pictures. In the end, I’m actually enjoying the less crowded places much more, like the Imperial Palace, which was completely empty.
