Farcaster solves the fundamental problem with the Fediverse. It uses the blockchain for global, tamper-resistant state. That was the issue that bedeviled Mastodon. Servers could fake everything, even user counts. They had no mechanism for decentralized consensus. https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1154461575656308737

One important point that wasn’t mentioned in that X thread is that global consensus is critical on a social model because the entire revenue system uses those stats to operate https://x.com/manuelmaccou/status/1805197849681969614?s=46&t=nKz19xkjBExbNJhnxDcuqQ

Nice thread. I see lots of engagement farming & bots here too (essentially mirroring Twitter) & I’d consider it very valuable for projects, people to differentiate likes & other actions to determine truly good casts, real users, valuable users, tipping allowances .. > hence interesting for end users in warpcast @dwr.eth as well as apps & tools like /openrank /degentokenbase /lp /wildcardclub

Fully agree. Still puzzled why so many smart people refuse to see this β€œbig hole” in fediverse trustworthiness πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I think, as the dust settles on SocialFi, we're left with no choice but to find an incentive system that keeps the consensus ongoing. although one could argue that Ethereum's self-sustainability inherently makes Hubs cheaper, it's more than fair to also argue that the network has to work out for operators vs community.

Mastodon culture complements the tech substrate: superseded, deceptive, broken and broke Is liveness without correctness is worse than centralisation?

I was just thinking about the similarities and differences between Farcaster and Mastodon, and then I came across your post, which answered my question.

What if we used partial ordering for scalability and pushed parts of the consensus off-chain? Bringing everything onchain in a total global order might hinder the massive scalability needed for a social network with billions of users.

furthermore, i think farcaster is more usable and better looking than twitter and it makes think that farcaster could be bigger than twitter one day.
