That he definitely was. But he also held racist views which, by today’s Overton window, would have him canceled or relegated to the far fringe of the political spectrum. Which, in hindsight, may have bolstered his understanding of the threat posed by Hitler, when everybody else was still dithering and hoping for the best. I remember reading a biographic essay of Churchill years ago which proposed that his extreme views were precisely what allowed him to see Hitler’s end game so plainly - in a “it takes one to see one” kind of way. Regardless, he was the right man, at the right time, for the right job.

do you think there's a resurgence of imperialism today? how would another Churchill deal with the UN & broad attrition/insurgency?

I sometimes wonder about the leaders that may have made the world a better place, had they not been canceled before realizing their potential. It’s a weird time in history tbh, public figures being scrutinized on all aspects all the time. Wonder if Churchill would have had his second act in modern day.
