I think China is seizing the opportunity and aiming to take the lead in shaping the future by offering a similar and powerful model (something that already exists and has been done before). Right now, what matters most is the global feedback. These responses are incredibly important and valuable because they highlight flaws that can be addressed. Whoever leads in this field will gain the upper hand. All of this assumes, of course, that China doesn’t have a more advanced version hidden away.

Initially, the US were preaching democratic AI as it is meant to benefit all and allow open access, but I think they have allowed their trade war with China to make them the totalitarian AI government that they have been preaching against. Now, this won't turn out well for the US because not only is China advanced in technology, but they also have the advantage of cheap mass production or cheap cost of development. No one can beat that. Now, I think this is a crucial marketing strategy by the Chinese government to be viewed as a good boy. This will attract other governments and industries to invest in China and their AI because it is open source. Regarding giving out the most advanced AI for free, promotion (freebies) is a great marketing strategy as it attracts users to a new business. Also, the magnitude at which Deepseek R1 will advance will be unprecedented as it gets to consume more than 1,000 to 100,000 times of data than OpenAI is open to, just because it is open source.

China's decision to release advanced AI for free is a calculated geopolitical strategy. It helps them project soft power, build global influence, and challenge the dominance of Western tech. By making AI accessible, they encourage adoption worldwide, positioning their technology as a standard while collecting valuable data and feedback to improve their systems further. It's not just generosity it's a long-term play for global leadership in AI innovation and influence.

China is expected to provide free AI to enhance its global influence, compete with Western technology, gather data for future development, promote its own technology, and advance its political objectives.

China is capitalizing on the opportunity to shape the future by releasing a powerful model similar to existing ones. The real value lies in the global feedback this generates allowing them to pinpoint flaws and improve. In this race the leader in AI gains a critical advantage assuming of course that China isn't already working with something even more advanced behind the curtain.

China is seizing the moment to shape the future by offering a powerful model that mirrors existing ones. The key here is global feedback these responses are invaluable for identifying flaws and refining the technology. In the race for dominance, whoever perfects AI first gains a significant edge. And, of course, this move assumes China doesn’t already have an even more advanced version behind the scenes.
