Initially, the US were preaching democratic AI as it is meant to benefit all and allow open access, but I think they have allowed their trade war with China to make them the totalitarian AI government that they have been preaching against.
Now, this won't turn out well for the US because not only is China advanced in technology, but they also have the advantage of cheap mass production or cheap cost of development. No one can beat that.
Now, I think this is a crucial marketing strategy by the Chinese government to be viewed as a good boy. This will attract other governments and industries to invest in China and their AI because it is open source. Regarding giving out the most advanced AI for free, promotion (freebies) is a great marketing strategy as it attracts users to a new business.
Also, the magnitude at which Deepseek R1 will advance will be unprecedented as it gets to consume more than 1,000 to 100,000 times of data than OpenAI is open to, just because it is open source. 1 reply
