BIG frame idea Token-gated frames Based on FID and connected address holdings, offer different experiences if holding the correct NFT or ERC-20 (ahem, $degen)

If i wanted to gate something i can just use stripe - there isn’t a 10x to it imo Kinda not related but in general imo if you want to gate something/make it private it shouldn’t be on a blockchain - although sufficiently decentralized ways may be better :)

What if you wanted someone else to be able to gate something on top of your token? The permissionless composability is a 10x in terms of the design space

that is a solid point, didn't think about that for some use cases token gating is really cool, I think most generic use cases don't need it though (ex. subscriptions)

Even subscriptions could benefit from tokengating if done thoughtfully. If a subscription wanted to enable third parties to give benefits or access to their subscribers then tokengating is probably the best way to do that.

looking for a steelman argument for this. why would a subscription holder want to give away this value for free, rather than try to capture some of it (or at least hold onto it, to keep others from capturing that value first)?

The subscription holder wants to be rewarded for being a subscriber so they’d likely opt in and verify their subscription if the access or benefit was worthwhile to them. Plus this feature is a decision made by the creator of subscription instead of the subscriber.
