If i wanted to gate something i can just use stripe - there isn’t a 10x to it imo Kinda not related but in general imo if you want to gate something/make it private it shouldn’t be on a blockchain - although sufficiently decentralized ways may be better :)

What if you wanted someone else to be able to gate something on top of your token? The permissionless composability is a 10x in terms of the design space

that is a solid point, didn't think about that for some use cases token gating is really cool, I think most generic use cases don't need it though (ex. subscriptions)

Even subscriptions could benefit from tokengating if done thoughtfully. If a subscription wanted to enable third parties to give benefits or access to their subscribers then tokengating is probably the best way to do that.
