Yes. American high culture, what little is left, is pure dogshit now. 20 years ago I would have argued that Europeans pay too much attention to (and take too seriously) American pop culture, while ignoring the high literary culture that was the equal of the European: Roth and Vonnegut are pyrotechnic compared to Céline and Gary. Europeans may watch 'Breaking Bad' but they read practically nothing in American literature, journalism, or philosophy. This was an undeserved oversight. Now, sadly, no...there's nobody left worth reading in the US. It's pure, masturbatory woke-slop that speaks to nobody, not even actual Americans. https://x.com/Perez_Writes/status/1804916540300472704

I dunno about masturbatory *woke* slop. From my perspective the majority of American writing is garbage about being more productive and making money. It’s masturbatory to be sure but not of the self (ego), but rather of the capitalist overlords.

I wanna know what the hyped-up books in translation by Europeans are! Could you share/recommend some?

Wokeism was initially created as post-modernism in France by Derrida and Foucault, but it was productionalize by the U.S. First by the American universities indoctrinating the elites, who then spread it through corporate America and the culture. Is there anything equivalent right now in terms of new theories?
