I'm curious, what does it mean to you when someone says: “I’m spiritual but not religious”?

That they worship nothing and have no real metaphysics.

Hmm..I think it's an inchoate worship, mostly self-absorbed and kind of impotent as a collective.

It's the guy who thinks he's too smart for religion stating he's also not too dumb to occasionally stare in wonder at a sunset or his child.

Everyone worships something, even if they don't name and acknowledge it, no?

Sounds like a very Christian interpretation of religion.

"God is not religion but a spiritual bond". Religions are organizations corrupted by imperfect humans exerting human authority on other humans. What a religion's underlying set of beliefs are, and the God at the center of it, is spirituality. It's the personal relationship with God. Fwiw, there's room and need for both
