I’m against it. Kids need different point of view from parents. Different studying methods, different places and different struggles. We should not raise our kid as photocopies of ourselves. Life is tough, even at a school. We should teach them to cope with life, not schooling them.

I agree with everything you said, I just don't think the current school system is the best way to do any of that

Find different schools if you can or integrate if you think they lack something. We should not commit the error of “protecting” them from something we think is wrong. Otherwise we are only moving the trauma when they grow up and it will be worse because they are not used to struggle

The overprotection issue is on my mind, but it's not my main driver. School is just a big, long & unpredictable black hole: what you "learn" in 15 years in school can be done in less than half the time. The world is changing fast and going to school in the next decade is going to inherently set you back

As for social skills, the 1 or 2 groups of people you're stuck with (classmates and teachers both) is just as likely to be bad as it is to be good. It's not a gamble I want to take with my kids Providing exposure to diverse groups of people the same age is really not that hard

School is not just notions. Is also human relationships, games, first loves, fights, dealing with bully, competitions, delusions, etc. It takes 15 years to form a person. You cannot half the time. If you want to learn more you can do it in your free time. Don’t think of school as the only way to learn things.
