This gets at the idea that design != art Something beautifully "designed" but doesn't provide utility is art. But that doesn't mean a useful design can't be beautiful.

that is true however I think what OP was saying is that, increasingly, there are aesthetic standards the users expect products to live up to or adoption will suffer
