Whether by melancholia or meditation, the leader needs to discern truth through aloneness, while still heeding the crowds (or the group chats)

I worry, though, that we lack the spiritual infrastructure to allow such a leader to emerge

1. I agree in spirit, but the people are spiritually devoid right now. In order to roll up their sleeves, they're going to have to be left with no other options (hard times)

2. The people are already acting on it -- it's how we have the current administration. My plea is not to buck the "strong man" desire, but to ask that the strong man be wise as well / philosophically grounded

Can’t help but feel that waiting for yet another mythical leader is doing more harm than good.

People crave for others to solve their problems, but it’s only we who can solve our own problems.  We need to stop waiting for a charismatic leader, roll up our sleeves and get to work.  

It’s only in doing this work that we can actually identify a leader anyway.

I only recently got into US history (aka took a nap near a copy of A People's History of the United States) but I fear the preliminary challenge may be based on the average US citizen's ability to even identify Lincoln....

Hard times will make everyone hold the same value: heal

I read "spiritual infrastructure" and think "a majority of Americans need to hold the same values"

this was true for a couple of centuries, but it'll never be true again

The powers that be have worked very hard to rig the system and make sure such a leader can't rise to a position such as president

Polarization is great for business and great for entrenched power structures

I often tell the people around me that Abraham Lincoln himself couldn’t reunite the Union today. The empire has too many systemic problems for a leader to correct course. We need serious paradigm shifts if it’s at all possible to correct.
