If you make it to Kyoto, you have a lovely half-day in Arashiyama. Put your name down in the morning for a spot at Steak Otsuka. Explore the Bamboo forest and proximate Unesco world heritage sites until it's your time to have some of the best beef you'll ever taste.

If you're into cooking knives, don't miss Aritsugu in the Nishiki Market. They've been making blades for over 400 years, and used to supply swords for the Imperial House of Japan.

Agreed with others, though, that Tokyo + Kyoto may feel rushed in 7 days. You could spend a month in Tokyo and probably not get bored. Best advice I could give you is to extend the trip to 9-10 days :D You could also spend a night in a coastal town like Atami and enjoy the hotsprings / onsens there.

I donβt think we can leave baby that long the first time, even 7 days is gonna be pushing it! We were thinking 2 days in the Ise-Shima Aman to bask in nature then do the rest in the city π€ Maybe come back to Kyoto on a second trip not sure yet!
