I actually think the hype cycles aren’t just TikTok/media-driven—they’re also celebrity-driven! The place was on a reality TV show a while back, and Kendall Jenner ate there too. I totally get that it’s frustrating for locals who used to pop in quietly, but for what it’s worth, Golden Diner has always been tough to get into for weekend brunch without an advance res—like, 2–3 years running.

I still don’t think it makes sense the way they’ve set it up. You can look at places like Thai Diner—just as popular, but they have a hybrid system where you can put your name down and come back later. If this spot knows they’re going to “sell out” right at opening, why not use a waitlist or timed reservation drops to make it less painful? It feels like they’re trying to manufacture a line for hype, but it ends up punishing regulars and people who used to love coming here without the chaos. A line can create buzz, but not if it makes the experience worse. There are ways to do both—generate excitement and respect people’s time.
