I actually think the hype cycles aren’t just TikTok/media-driven—they’re also celebrity-driven! The place was on a reality TV show a while back, and Kendall Jenner ate there too. I totally get that it’s frustrating for locals who used to pop in quietly, but for what it’s worth, Golden Diner has always been tough to get into for weekend brunch without an advance res—like, 2–3 years running.

Lol, gm gm! I once saw a video of a young woman in the Southwest who wanted to help her parents’ struggling Mexican restaurant. She started posting on TikTok, locals took notice, & business picked up. In NYC, things work differently because of density & so many tourists, but it’s still nice to see restaurants thriving when so many struggle. The challenge for locals is finding the right time to visit. I waited 30 minutes in line at Katz’s two weeks ago. I was with an out of town friend, so I didn’t mind, it was fun playing tour guide. I love Katz’s, but it’s 2025. Restaurants should take reservations instead of making people wait in line. JG Melon is probably the one exception I make, but I only go every six months or so. Plus, it’s not overrun with tourists, which makes a big difference. No disrespect to tourists, they’re great for the city, just not for my dinner experience 😂😂
