Dear Cryptoleft, I have a question for you: From my experience and knowledge (in France & in the US), it seems to me that left wing aligned ppl are more often than not, anti-crypto. Oftentimes because it's seem as a way to scam people, and often associated with finance, which is traditionally despised by the left. However, given the very nature of blockchains, being a decentralized and transparent alternative to our current information storage/communication system, which should 100% align with the leftwing standards, how come we're seeing so much dogmatism and lazyness to actually understand the technology, embrace it, and build leftwing aligned proposition? This really baffles me to be honest. Is there a deeper reason as to why things are this way? Making crypto a partisan issue is really the worst outcome possible...

I think a lot os because of crypto’s scammy, hyper-capitalist reputation. Media is to blame but I put a lot of blame on the entire community of good people who say very little about it. We all tend to shrug off wallet drains like the cost of doing business. Busy people doing leftist work IRL don’t want to bother. Even of they buy in, it’s almost impossible to sell their communities. Also leftist spaces on the blockchain are still dominated by white guys. I’m not saying this to cut anyone down. I like my friends here but mass adoption will come but painfully slow I think. The risks appear to outweigh the benefits right now.

Because of 2022, the Summer of Scam. I don't agree with it, but I totally understand the Democrat pivot from being ambivalent about crypto to being hostile. I mean, they had to do *something*. How quickly we all forget everything that happened in 2022

Trish already said it but… yeah. I listen to a lot of left wing podcasts, even ones about tech, and they love to bash crypto and blockchains. They don’t get it. The NFTs and scams and capitalist co-opting of crypto has been such a huge turn off to so many, it’s kinda an uphill battle. Also there are a lot of valid concerns about carbon emissions (more with proof of work systems) that need to be addressed publicly and with more than just a carbon offset program.

Besides what people already said, - it's partly a perception issue, there was a study that went around recently showing crypto ownership is spread pretty evenly between left right and center - the most famously anti crypto people are the US Dems, who are politically conservative when it comes to economy and authoritarianism - crypto promises an opportunity for a neutral global currency but the current ones probably aren't it, they seem disqualified for one reason or another

Anti-tech in general, not just crypto. Wasn’t always that way
