Dear Cryptoleft, I have a question for you: From my experience and knowledge (in France & in the US), it seems to me that left wing aligned ppl are more often than not, anti-crypto. Oftentimes because it's seem as a way to scam people, and often associated with finance, which is traditionally despised by the left. However, given the very nature of blockchains, being a decentralized and transparent alternative to our current information storage/communication system, which should 100% align with the leftwing standards, how come we're seeing so much dogmatism and lazyness to actually understand the technology, embrace it, and build leftwing aligned proposition? This really baffles me to be honest. Is there a deeper reason as to why things are this way? Making crypto a partisan issue is really the worst outcome possible...

I think a lot os because of crypto’s scammy, hyper-capitalist reputation. Media is to blame but I put a lot of blame on the entire community of good people who say very little about it. We all tend to shrug off wallet drains like the cost of doing business. Busy people doing leftist work IRL don’t want to bother. Even of they buy in, it’s almost impossible to sell their communities. Also leftist spaces on the blockchain are still dominated by white guys. I’m not saying this to cut anyone down. I like my friends here but mass adoption will come but painfully slow I think. The risks appear to outweigh the benefits right now.

lots of good points. I guess I'm frustrated because to me, the left is dedicated to understand the how and why of situations in general, so If I would expect anyone to try and understand blockchain, it's the left, but somehow, most ppl seem very content with staying at the surface level, repeating talking points from parties or opinion leaders on their side... 🤷‍♂️ Of course, scams and get rich quick schemes are not helping...

banger, 10/10, this is all of it im in a number of leftist FB groups and the people are passionate about making a better world and proletariat solidarity, usually quite receptive to new ideas, reading theory, and learning when they are wrong but any time i try to cite crypto's success helping in countries with unstable currencies, or point to @tbsocialist, the reaction is pure vitriol, they don't want to hear it, nothing but laugh reacts and 30d bans. they view it as already fully owned by corporate interests and right-wing memelords. they (rightfully) cite scams and the NFT bubble and don't believe it'll ever change from that. sometimes i wonder too why we haven't been able to produce more tangible equitable outcomes in the past decade. at last devcon i met dozens of bogota/argentine/venezualan locals whod escaped hyperinflation thru onchain stables, but nobody ever talks about that. i think for this to change we need to elevate more cryptoleft evangelists from the global south. tag em if you know em.
