There are so many people looking for PM roles that have never done PM work Common peeps I see falling for this are ex Product Marketers, Community Managers, Strategy people (not a real title), and Project Managers who think that’s Product work If you’re in this boat and want to do product, you should build one

Having hired web3 product a common misconception is as product managers you facilitate the execute a roadmap and project manage the process. Web3 PM’s especially need to build, understand the tech behind the work, and have a great handle of feature prioritization.

If you build a product, does that immediately grant you the title of being a project manager? The reason why you see so many people looking for PM roles is that they see themselves, or the traits they have in the description. Not saying they all qualify, but every description for a PM role I've seen differs

I often tell people the best way to become a PM is to do the job before you have the title. Get to know the user and their problems and start advocating/shipping something (anything) on their behalf. Could be in your co or via a side project.

Facts. There are also folks currently in PM roles at web3 startups with zero experience in bringing products to life + lack the interest to learn. Not only is it draining for the product + team, it’s also wildly draining to be doing a job you don’t understand, without a desire to learn, for the sake of a title.

Yeaahhh, "community manager" is not a real management role. (To be fair, a community manager needs skills that an actual manager doesn't. It's part PR, part cat herding, and part babysitting.)

As an actual PM, web3 hiring for PMs is the worst I’ve seen. You’ll get a “not enough experience” and then they’ll hire one of the above anyway.
