suddenly getting pigeons hanging out on our balcony on the regular... we don't store any food there, just have some potted plants, and this wasn't a problem until recently any ideas why? and best practices or setups to repel?

They are checking if it’s a safe place to make a nest. Spring is nest time. Use the anti pigeon spray, it contains an odor they dislike.

this is what i'm afraid of! i see them going under the patio furniture as well, but so far no signs of any nest activity... any spray you recommend?

The nest will start if they are confident you will not see them. That’s why they are checking the position now… No particular recommendations, anything from Amazon or Costco will work. It’s just a deterrent, not a venom.
