You got partially correct answers. It's true that you have to do a caloric deficit, but you also want to reduce fat while you keep the muscle, or even create muscle. The more muscle percent you gain/keep, the more you will burn as these muscles are fed from the fat. So weightlifting and HIIT are the best long-term IMO

All you're saying is to raise their TDEE, but they still need to be in caloric deficit. That's literally all that is needed to reduce fat. Losing muscle while cutting is a meme, unless you're in single digit bf or a really extremem cut.
