Continued… Sports (aka culture shock): This one hit hard. In the US, you can support multiple teams. What?! In the UK, you pick your team and you bleed for that team. The idea of casually rooting for a second club feels like betrayal. Also, teams here just… move cities? Like, your team can pack up and leave? And don’t even get me started on how many different sports there are. It’s chaos. The Arts: The UK (and Europe) wins on depth and history—museums, architecture, the classics. But the US supports the arts in more tangible ways. There are more grants, programs, local theater, foundations, and more accessible pathways to mid-level sales for artists. It’s still hard, but the infrastructure feels stronger. Weather: 67°F in the UK? Everyone’s sunbathing. 67°F in the US? Coats. Maybe even a scarf. Outdoor pools: In the UK, they’re for swimming. In the US? They’re for standing in while cooling off. There’s so much more to unpack, but I’ll stop here, for now. 😂
