Short thread about Japanese Fluxus artist Mieko Shiomi and her 1963 artwork titled 'Word Event', the first work in her series of 'Spatial Poems'.  

A performative work of poetry, it reminds me of Yoko Ono's conceptual book 'Grapefruit', and of Brian Eno's 'Oblique Strategies', published a decade later.

Shiomi devised her 'Spatial Poems' as a system of global events where artists + friends throughout the world could perform events, often simultaneously, and send reports to her in Japan, which were then published in New York by George Maciunas for Fluxus.

Shiomi was also a musician and a composer and would have been aware of the work of John Cage.

I'm especially interested in the global network/mail art quality of Shiomi's work. I also see how she has influenced artists across disciplines. There are certain cues in the 'Method' by Marina Abramović which are reminiscent of 'Word Event' to me.
