1. 🧵 Short thread about Japanese Fluxus artist Mieko Shiomi and her 1963 artwork titled 'Word Event', the first work in her series of 'Spatial Poems'. A performative work of poetry, it reminds me of Yoko Ono's conceptual book 'Grapefruit', and of Brian Eno's 'Oblique Strategies', published a decade later.

2. 🧵 (Mieko Shiomi continued) Shiomi devised her 'Spatial Poems' as a system of global events where artists + friends throughout the world could perform events, often simultaneously, and send reports to her in Japan, which were then published in New York by George Maciunas for Fluxus.

3. 🧵 (Mieko Shiomi continued) Shiomi was also a musician and a composer and would have been aware of the work of John Cage.
