Question for fc devs: Anytime we want to use any farcaster client that’s not warpcast, we have to sign a transaction to authorize that client to cast on our behalf and/or edit our profile. How come warpcast doesn’t need to ask permission?

It’s not a requirement. It’s just how people have it designed today for practicality / speed of implementation. cc @woj.eth

If you have a signer you don’t need SIWF. Auth != write access You could onboard a user, set up signer and auth in the future with email.

ah yes but @adrienne is specifically asking about the permission to cast or edit profile supercast (which adrienne recently onboarded on) asks for a signer approval only after you attempt writing to the protocol

And if signer approval is always a requirement, and there’s so other work around, why doesn’t warpcast need signer approval? In the future, would be good to force this to be true to protocol neutrality. And instead of authorized signer, could I one day authenticate using my farcaster wallet to show proof of ownership?

warpcast needs a signer approval, but you approved the warpcast signer without knowing about it, in the background, during the warpcast onboarding > And instead of authorized signer, could I one day authenticate using my farcaster wallet to show proof of ownership? it's possible already today, ive seen some developers using auth like this "sign in with farcaster" also works like this but instead of a verified wallet, it uses the custody account that comes with your waprcast mobile app the full state of the art flow today is: 1. supercast asks you to log in with farcaster (warpcast) to show the correct feed, notifications and all the "read" part — it doesnt require a signer approval 2. once you try to post or react to something, supercast will prompt you to approve a signer
