I think it’s that pg’s writing attracts a certain set of people into his world. and people who are receptive to his writing might share a lot of similar characteristics as he does. talent vs determination, ivy vs not ivy, over-simplify things a bit too much

I see his point and generally agree. (I don't think he's saying Ivy league students aren't determined. I also think it's revealing one’s own biases and heuristics to assume attending an Ivy = talented, and not = less talented) The perspective is also HIGHLY dependent on what one considers “achieving something”.

i'd like to see data on "not that many determined people who don't" it might as well be that "it doesn't matter if you are talented or determined or neither — most talented and determined people never achieve anything"
