if someone is shooting down other people’s ideas in public with a tone of know-it-all, they are: noobs who stay that way (i know because i used to be that person) or grow up and realize how hard it is to birth ‘anything’ to this world, and keep the shoot-down private while providing constructive feedback

I've been there too. It took me a while to realize that shooting down ideas publicly often just shuts people down. Privately reach out "Hey, I see where you're going with this, do think adding … might help in …..." It's amazing how much more productive and respectful the conversation becomes.
