idk, as a person new to the network, I feel like I'm encouraged to grow my network as fast as possible to get some sort of coveted badge. I don't feel like I'm being encouraged to curate my timeline carefully whatsoever

Yeah that’s fair. Maybe it stems from joining a platform that doesn’t have a lot of people I already know yet (because it’s still early), but joining after the rush where the early people all interact with each other. Just feels a bit on the lonely side at first

early joiners are now a cluster amongst other clusters & are constantly bombarded by spams, or low effort posts nowadays. yet, they know when they talk to their early cluster which in actual has a culture of debate, & building, they'll consume better info. it took many earlies months to build that graph too w/o badges.
