coders going through it rn - reminds me of when dall-e dropped and artists had their own existential crisis but then after a quick peak all the models got progressively less creative as they turned more recursive https://x.com/creatine_cycle/status/1900621371350413790?s=46&t=Yy6048FIfLRlntFA3yXpnw

I’ve been told I’m stupid and worthless by too many software engineers I am now motivated sheerly out of spite to code things ai assisted and prove a literal monkey I mean a woman can do it

Agreed, sort of - the models didn't really get less creative, they got less creative *by default. Or they just defaulted to BS, like your out-of-box rig was set up for failure. I think, personally, Midjourney is in a phenomenal place, it just has 100x or more workflow and parameter tuning options that make it just not easy to use anymore. So ironically the artists who complained that it didn't take skill (they're right) are being proven right by the people who use it without a semblance of skill. This isn't to say tuning a model is a skill per se, but knowing that something needs tuning is the first step to hearing the music sort of. The best vibe coding right now requires a level of language and conceptual knowledge that is not widely held. It's not like some tiktoker who says "do X but make it good and easy and cheap" can get from 0 to launch easy But because there are so many ppl hyping Vibe Coding, a lot of people think these tools are way stronger or easier to use than they actually are

i also wondered about that recursive thing a while back. i’m curious if that’s actually what’s happening — i certainly find myself becoming increasingly frustrated trying to get desired outputs from chatgpt and claude, even as i become more experienced at prompting. is there really a slop positive feedback loop happening? https://x.com/logonaut/status/1600718104346054656?s=46&t=hu5xXueIqQScjnSVTaZusg

It all depends on what you’re vibe coding. Most of the stuff is pretty simple. It’s a great way to get an idea off the ground. Obviously you can’t build an at-scale business with code you can’t even read but it will accelerate entrepreneurs and enable more businesses to propagate. Lots of slop (just like with writing and visual media) but overall probably a net positive.

Main problem I found is that it doesn't optimize for shit. Vibe coding is great until you need to trouble shoot. It's fantastic for small projects tho!

You know how they say if you put a million monkeys in a room and had them type eventually 1 of them would generate the complete work of William Shakespeare vibe coding like that but everyone can subscribe to 1 million monkeys for like 10 bucks a month except even better cuz u can tell the monkeys get a little smarter w feedback
