even this suggestion breaks the rules. the design standard is 24px for icon size and 48px for the tap target.

but the extra size and spacing reduces the margin for error and the clustering decreases the amount of thinking to find the action you're looking for.

Actually why not. I never understood why on Earth designers put the icons under ... when they fit the space without being truncated. This pattern is prevailed basically on social conformity (other apps do this so we do to). That's sacrificing usability for visual appearance.
