Some days I question what I’m even doing in this space. 

I believe that the tech itself is neutral. But turns out the only real well proven use case is speculation, the capital is excessive venture funding, and the core demographic is mid 20s male libertarians.

What keeps you going? What are you optimistic about?

Tech is never neutral. It's a tool. It's the fallacy of the defense industry to keep on saying a gun is a neutral tool as it has no concious and depends on the operator. Thats bullshit. A gun is a tool with a purpose to kill a lifeform, its not neutral per design. 

Less drastic: Blockchain tech. It's not neutral.

Planet, punk rock, penguins - and foxes, foxes are cool, too!

Tech is supposed to support all, not few. All tech is built on commons such as knoweldge, experience and public resources. 
The moment tech is created it's not neutral anymore. You might agree with the creator in its mission, then it might look neutral to you. As soon as you disagree, it becomes subjective

I highly recommend to look into systems thinking, e.g. writings of Meadows. She's shown nicely in her career that complex systems, no matter the elements, feedback loops, operators,... self-organize and optimize towards the purpose, the paradigm they exist for

It's designed for a or multiple purposes. 
Technology designed to redistribute wealth from the many to the few via giving large capital preference in operation over small capital will always just do that, no matter the operator. 

It's all our duty to give tech the purpose it needs to support us...
