Current progress iterating Decent's color system to a proper v1.0, before and after. Still testing each color in UI and illustrations, making smaller adjustments as needed. Also need to update material transparencies. Overall, the amount of color swatches available were reduced by 14% with each primitive value plugged into a unified system that smoothed out color bands across each stop. Visual accessibility is now baked in, and every color works better in combination with others. Layering in design tokens after testing is complete to provide usage guidelines for designers and developers to keep the design-to-code gap tight. Updates will be reflected in app.decentdao.org soon. Very glad our team at @decentdao has been building on the app layer, guided by these same basic crypto beliefs since 2017. Simply being able to write EVM-compatible smart contracts was a competitive advantage 8 years ago. Now it’s table stakes. Today, simply building an app on existing infra is a competitive advantage. It will be table stakes. Brand values and market position will always be the differentiators in an increasingly competitive market.

I wish more DAOs had as many contentious proposals as Nouns. IMO contentious votes signal a highly engaged, highly opinionated community, maturing community that disagrees on how best to execute their collective mission rather than the mission itself. Most proposals result in 95%+ votes one way or the other. I'm curious how we might stir up more civic debate on the proposal floor across DAO communities? What actions are required from core teams to achieve that level of community engagement?

A product design system expert once told me that it was impossible to manage a brand identity system and a product UI system from the same design system because their needs were so different. I respectfully disagreed with that line of thinking. It is true that marketing graphics and product interfaces have vastly different requirements, but they both contribute to the overall brand and thus should be unified by a shared system. A well-built identity system accommodates the brand across all of its touch points, not just the ones visual or product designers know how to maintain. It should enable creativity and provide flexibility with enough guidance to constrain to the medium. The medium informs the message. As designers, we always need to consider how to connect the business goals to its outputs. We need unified systems that create bridges across business functions, not silos.

We're back in color exploration land. Finally digging into Decent's full color system to balance out the supporting UI colors, rebuild our color ramps, and build better guidelines on color usage in our brand guidelines (brand.decentdao.org).
