Just stumbled on this incredible interview with Brian Collins from last year. Incredible talent always pushing his award-winning teams to the cutting edge: "We always try to look far beyond wherever we are. When you’re always looking over your peers’ shoulders, you end up looking like your peers." "The most creative, sexy, interesting and visible things you do in your career will be less than 5% of your real work...But 95% of your work will be focused on consistently applying yourself to the mundane, the dull and the painfully boring." https://www.fastcompany.com/91028065/brian-collins-on-the-secret-no-one-wants-to-tell-young-creatives-today

What a cool tool! Where does one acquire a cyanometer? And what do people often do with their sky color measurements?

Finished building up my raised bed and got all my planting done. To set the bed up without spending a ton on wasted soil, I layered in logs at the bottom with mulch in the center from found materials and community resources. 6” of custom soil mix on top: - CoCo Coir - Vermiculite - Recycled Mushroom Blocks - Chicken poop fertilizer (donated) - Activated Charcoal - Perlite Material Cost: $110 - soil amendments $80 - plants

I need UI to engage. Too visual a user. Don’t know how to interact otherwise.

I'm noticing deeper happy hour deals across town lately. Couple years ago everything was $1-2 off type of deals. Today it's 50% off, BOGO type of deals.

Sauna is the moooove! I'm headed to mine this evening with renewed validation. In regards to inspiration, I've honestly never followed a particular designer/architect's school of thought very closely, but rather spend a lot of time studying macro trends and constantly look for inspiration out in the wild. Travel is critical for inspiration to me! That said, John Portman is a legendary design figure to my Atlanta upbringing and I love the work from Collins, Matchstic, and Motto.

Spirit is perfectly fine. Requires an upfront awareness that one is sacrificing conveniences they expect from other airlines and that's okay. Watch the upsell pricing ladders or you end up paying the same as a regular airline. Worst story I have is that their seats & cabins are uncomfortable and unbearable after 3-4 hours in flight.

Actively unlearning fixed brand frameworks from my early career to build more flexible systems right now: - defining relationships between elements more important than defining the elements themselves - semantic kit of parts is more usable than technical specifications - one size fits all approach = one size fits none - determine where a communication lives on spectrum between utilitarian function and emotional expression. Adapt the brand kit accordingly. - brand expression doesn’t stop at guidelines and standards: it starts there - the logo may be the most recognizable part of the brand but it’s only one part. It doesn’t need to be on every graphic. Other brand elements can create similar recognition. - logo system > logo lockups
