For a while in Eugene, I rode my bike almost everywhere (something like 10% of the city commutes by bike and many more ride for transportation not just sport). The city was well-suited for it & I miss that part quite a bit. It’s the best way to get to know a city, imo.

“What are three things you’re thankful for?” is often better than “What are you most thankful for?” In general, asking for the singular example — best, worst, favorite, etc — is too much to ask someone to think about. Counterintuitively, asking for a few things lowers the bar and usually invites better discussion.

My takes on the World Cup posters: • Great (distinctly & recognizably local elements; unique, clever, and/or creative; design sensibility): Boston, Dallas, Houston, LA, Seattle • Good (distinctly & recognizably local elements; lacking creativity or uniqueness; decent design sensibility): Guadalajara, Miami, CDMX, Monterrey, NYC • Meh: Atlanta, KC (some of her other work is *killer*, but I don’t think this is her best work [which probably isn’t on her]; there’s very little that’s distinctively KC), Philadelphia, SF, Toronto, Vancouver (could have been so good but feels like they ran out of time) https://www.printmag.com/poster-design/2026-fifa-world-cup-posters

As I've read through the transcripts for interviews I've done this week, it's made me mindful of how much I communicate (verbally or non-verbally) to built rapport ("yeah, okay", "sure", etc.) versus build understanding. While good & necessary, too much of it can break the speaker's train of thought, so I'm trying to restrain rapport-communication a bit more and see what difference it makes.
